ABOUT GEORGIOS

Georgios Rafailis was born in Langenthal, Switzerland on March 4th, 1967, as the only child of two Greek immigrants from Corfu. Despite growing up in a foggy and sometimes depressing environment, Georgios has always maintained a positive and sunny disposition. Georgios is the founder and head of DTP Events, specializing in event organization and management. Following the closure of the iconic Mahamaya Restaurant in Bern, Switzerland in August 2013, he decided to return to his parents’ home country of Greece, where he currently lives – in Athens with his wife. As a self-employed entrepreneur, he provides consulting services primarily in the gastronomy, tourism industries and in digital marketing / strategy. He began organizing and presenting events in Athens and Greece in 2014 at The Place in Eksarxia. From 2016 onwards, events were organized under the name Downtempo Paintings, with their largest event to date taking place in May 2018 at the Blackbox Methodia, which was attended by over 500 guests. In Summer 2019, Downtempo Paintings held a mini-festival on Corfu Island, which took place in various locations, including a party by a sandy beach and two nights at the Mon Repos Amphitheater where modern dance met ambient music. During this period and prior to the pandemic, artists such as Aes Dana, Solar Fields, Asura, Cell, Zen Baboon, Stefan Torto, Labs Cloud, Sygnals, and Cabeiri performed, among others. The music played at these events primarily consisted of ambient, downbeat, psychill, and cinematic electronic music. Georgios is very passionate about music and continues to organize events under the banner of DTP Events. His dedication to music and event planning remains unwavering, driven by his love for the art form. 

LET US TELL YOU A BIT MORE ABOUT HIS EVENTS HISTORY:

His event-career began in 1988, when he booked his first live bands in the ISC club in Bern, Switzerland. He was co-responsible for bringing many popular artists to the stage, including The Toy Dolls, Rose of Avalance, and Fields of the Nephilim, among others. After traveling extensively in Asia, Georgios returned to Switzerland and began organising events for a radio station in the Dachstock of the Reitschule in Bern. During this time, he organized events featuring renowned artists like Loop Guru, Natacha Atlas, Renegade Soundwave, and Suns of Arqa. Georgios also worked for the music agency Swiss Office for Artists, where he played a key role in booking top artists for events around Switzerland and in summer festivals. Some of the artists he worked with include Lou Reed, Prodigy, The Orb, Metalheadz label, Chemical Brothers and Howie B, to name just a few. One of the most significant events that Georgios helped to produce & organize was the live performance of The Chemical Brothers in Bern in November 1999. This event was a huge success and cemented Georgios’ reputation as an expert in music event organisation. Mahamaya Bern – He was the soul and the fire of the Mahamaya in Bern, Switzerland from 2003 – 2013. He was responsible for the Mahamaya Desi & Electro events, the marketing, the press, the processes, the workflow, the staff, the menues, the grafix the t-shirts & giveaways, the concept and so much more ….. and of course the sound in / of the Mahamaya. He was the godfather of the Mahamaya. With the Mahamaya he organised Classical Indian Concerts and the legendary and always sold out Desi Parties with most famous DJ’s of the BBC Asian Network. Also the Mahamaya Electronic & Cosmic Soundscapes Parties were a big success and had a very big following and many fans. His extensive experience and expertise in the music industry make him an invaluable asset to any music event planning team. His ability to bring together the right artists and create unforgettable experiences for audiences is unparalleled. Georgios was also a DJ – specialised in Downbeat & Ambient – and played in Germany, Greece, Portugal, Brazil…but this is another Story.) A little more information about the above History:

Sofa – Swiss Office For Artists

Georgios worked for S.O.F.A. from December 1998 to May 2000. S.O.F.A. is a well-established booking and promoting agency that has been operating in Switzerland since the mid-eighties. They provide shows for approximately 250 international acts each year, in venues ranging from bars and clubs to arenas and music festivals all over Switzerland, totaling around 600 concerts annually. Additionally, S.O.F.A. independently organizes several big in-house productions per year with a capacity of 2,000 to 8,000 guests. Their own productions have included shows with renowned artists such as Kraftwerk, The Chemical Brothers, Ween, Snoop Dogg, Gossip, Franz Ferdinand, The Kills, Biffy Clyro, The XX, and many others…
